As you see, English is not the language I speak every day.....I didn't mean biggest cattle, but biggest herd, the biggest group......There are now about 15 highland crossbreeds in " 't Brook" . Most with the Sayaguesa bull Machiel as their father. (http://weertnatuur.blogspot.nl/2012/12/tauros-bij-de-stramproyerheide.html). The other herds are smaller.
About Podolica. I thought that Maremmana is a breed of the Podolische longhorn cattle group. That's also what I told in http://weertnatuur.blogspot.nl/2012/11/maremmana-runderen-op-de-loozerheide.html These cows are now at the Loozerheide with the Maronesa bull.
As you see I'm not an expert and that's why I appreciate your comments.
Gerard
Geer vanne Smeedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15709462186350113171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582783090042851176.post-57249712622869885582014-12-30T19:12:52.185+01:002014-12-30T19:12:52.185+01:00Highland crossbreeds are the biggest of the Tauros...Highland crossbreeds are the biggest of the Tauros cattle? Sounds weird, and doesn't really speak for the size of the Tauros cattle as a whole...Just out of curiosity, who is the source for that?
By the way, do you know anything about the few Podolica cows the Tauros project has/had? I haven't heard anything of those for more than one year. The project also had a Podolica bull two years ago (or so), but it died of a gastric emboli, unfortunately. Perhaps you already know that. And what Taurus sees in the crossbreeding of tuncaXmaremmana??? We will never here that from them, that's for sure.
Fine that you will link the post. Maybe there come some reactions if my suggestion is right.
I 'm intending to visit the other parcels to look what is going on there now. But when exactly is not quit sure.
By the way...... I heard that de biggest cattle (crossbreed highlanders), is difficult to handle (bad behaviour!!!!) and that Stichting Taurus and Ark consider to get rid of them......single ride slaughterer?
GerardGeer vanne Smeedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15709462186350113171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582783090042851176.post-40008549165715300492014-12-29T23:03:49.926+01:002014-12-29T23:03:49.926+01:00Dank je wel Helma. It is a beautiful critter anyway. Interesting thing to see Tudanca x Maremmana crossbreeds, although I wonder what the Stichting Taurus considered the purpose of such a combination.
I think I'll mention those cattle on my blog, by linking to your post, is that ok with you?
Daniel Foidlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02924677790606716751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582783090042851176.post-63500056884770015782014-12-28T20:02:43.856+01:002014-12-28T20:02:43.856+01:00Thanks for your reaction.
Last year december the...Thanks for your reaction.
Last year december the tudanca cows were on the parcel Siëndonk with several calfs and a maremmana bull (that bull is now at Wisseblök with the limia cow and a calve). The maremmana cows you mention (those on the site of Stichting Taurus) than were at the Loozerheide. They have nothing to do with the cattle of Siendonk. There is also a post (februar 2013) of these cows and with a Maronese bull (june 2014)at Loozerheide.
I think indeed that both the bull and the cows are Maremmana X Tudanca. So I think the bull calf at the first photo of december 2013 is the same as the bull at the photo of december 2014. For the bull I'm pretty sure, but with regard of the cows I doubt.... The cow calves I saw at Siendonk in dec. 2013 were still brown, so they were less than 6 months. When you think they are about 13,14,15 or 16 months, then it are the same ones. But maybe they are new here..... Stichting Taurus provides no information,
with regards GerardGeer vanne Smeedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15709462186350113171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6582783090042851176.post-89701010629679955592014-12-28T19:00:06.109+01:002014-12-28T19:00:06.109+01:00Hi,

What I didn't quite understand: So do you think that bull is a full-blood Maremmana or a crossbreed with Tudanca, or do you think those cows are Maremmana x Tudanca? The bull looks like a full-blood Maremmana to me. I'm not so sure about the cows. They could be Tudanca-influenced indeed, although they seem to be a little old for that (this photo was taken in 2012:
Rooshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02095611236289233818noreply@blogger.com
